Celeste Turner lives in Detroit, Michigan. Even as little girl she was a storyteller and author. After a dedicated career as an educator in public schools, she’s using her imagination and skills to create stories that inspire, celebrate, and encourage children.
She is the SCBWI Metro Detroit Shop Talk Co-Coordinator. Celeste loves spending time with family and friends of all generations, creating new memories, but never forgetting her childhood ones.
I am from Saturday morning cartoon mysteries.
Backyard adventures with mayonnaise jars.
Bumble bees buzzing in new glass homes.
Spooky stories and tales on the front porch.
I am from sliced bananas floating in corn flakes.
Better Made potato chips with ketchup on top.
Faygo red-pop and fruit punch decorated lips.
Hostess lemon pies, cupcakes, cream filled Twinkies.
Smoked beef franks burnt on the grill.
I am from my own little corner being whatever I want to be.
Surrounded by Curious Gorge Flies a Kite, Riding a Bike.
Crayons, pencils, and line paper in a shoe box.
Writing stories from a little girl’s heart.
I am from 4th of July picnics on an island.
Screaming down a giant slide on potato sacks.
The pop, pop, pop of firecrackers.
Whispering breezes over the river under a sunset.
Dazzling lights of Canada gazing back at me.
I am from laughter at big Sunday dinners.
Butter pound cake with homemade vanilla ice cream.
Soaking in rose-petal bubble bath from the dime store.
Pillow fights and whispered secrets until lights out.
I am from growing up never forgetting.
Living, laughing, and loving.
